We had a great meeting last Saturday morning. The Parish Pastoral Council met with the chairs of some parish committees, the facilitators and hosts of the “Best Practices” Discussion Groups, to study and discuss the data gathered from those meetings prior to Christmas. We broke into seven different groups to formulate goals based on your input. Those goals were then prioritized. The Council will take that data and refine it further in order to develop a long-range plan for the parish. The twenty-eight people at the meeting were full of energy and optimism as we discussed our parish and our mission. I want to thank those who came for their obvious commitment to our parish family, and I want to assure all of you that something definite will come from your insights and ideas. Stay tuned….
Thanks to all of you who participated in the Mission last week. Personally, I enjoyed Fr. Dan very much and appreciated his reflections on the passion and death of Jesus. The Lenten Mission will help the participants to better understand Christ’s passion and to celebrate the mysteries of the Sacred Triduum in a few weeks. If you have not yet gotten into the spirit of Lent, it is not too late or if you have already lost your initial fervor, don’t be discouraged. There are still four more weeks, plenty of time to slow down to pray, to go to confession, to do some penance.
We would like to know when you become aware of new Catholics moving into town. Perhaps they are your co-workers or neighbors. I encourage you to invite them to worship with us here at the Cathedral and if you will let us know, someone from the staff will make a personal contact and offer a similar invitation. Each of us must make more conscious efforts to extend Catholic hospitality and invitations to others. We have a great gift in our Catholic faith and we need to share it with others.
Remember, Fish Fry on March 19th and communal penance service on March 21st.
