This is the big week. We are all looking forward to Bishop Medley’s Episcopal ordination on Wednesday afternoon. Many of you have already told me that you will participate in the Mass. I know that it will be a wonderful celebration for him, his family and for our diocesan Church. It has been a lot of work, but I am privileged to have co-chaired the planning committee. Many people have generously shared their talents to organize the liturgy and the various accompanying events. Let us thank God for our new bishop and continue to hold him in our prayers. While it is undoubtedly an exciting time in his life, it is also a difficult one. He has had to leave his family and his friends and the local Church he has served for almost three decades. Fortunately, he is not too far away from them.
I am not as enamored with snow as I was in my younger years, but I still like it. Our winter-weary earth was beautifully transformed last weekend by the snowfall. Of course, that does mean extra work for many of us. I want to say a particular word of thanks to Joe Beard, Tommy Fulkerson, Fr. Joshua, Sharlene Meadows and Todd Johnson for their efforts to clear the snow from our property and make it safe for us to traverse the steps, walks and parking lot. God bless you!
I have been invited to participate in the “Men Who Cook” competition and fundraiser next Saturday evening. I have done this several times in the past, and it is always an enjoyable evening. As you know, it is for the benefit of the Glenmary Sisters. If you would like to taste my Italian Sausage Soup and the delicious offerings of approximately fifty other “chefs,” I have plenty of tickets.
