As you know, we are coming to the end of the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity. The theme for the week has been “You are Witnesses of These Things.” It has been our custom to host an ecumenical prayer service during this week but several factors have made it impossible to plan such a service this year. However, I do invite you to an Eucharistic prayer service tomorrow (Monday) evening. We have invited other Catholics in the area to join us in prayer for increased unity in the Church.
I was beginning to write this Perspective last Monday afternoon when I was interrupted by a visit from Bishop-elect Medley who was in town for some meetings. He is going to live here with Fr. Josh and me for a few months until arrangements are made for more permanent housing. I am grateful to Joe Beard, to Fr. Josh and to several other parishioners who have been working hard to paint and to prepare the quarters for our new bishop. It will be nice to have him with us.
Last week, I enjoyed watching (online) the Kentucky Youth Chorale perform at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. I especially enjoyed it because several of our young parishioners sing with the group. They are Paige Hicks, Lucy Kurtz, Natalie and Lilly Mathis. Congratulations on a job well done!
Perhaps you have seen that Owensboro Catholic Schools, in conjunction with Sts. Joseph and Paul Parish, is raffling a new home. This three-bedroom, $150,000 home can be yours for only $100. All proceeds will go to support Catholic Education. I have purchased a ticket and invite you to do so as well. You may purchase tickets at the OCS Central Office, at Sts. Joe & Paul or from me. Check out the owensborocatholic.org website or give me a call if you need more information.
